West Valley Cities/Town, along with the Authority and SCVURPPP continue to address copper pollution in several ways, including:
Prohibiting discharge of wastewater to storm drains generated from the installation, cleaning, treating, and washing of copper architectural features, including copper roofs
Prohibiting discharges from pools, spas, and fountains into storm drains
Inspecting industrial and commercial sites for proper copper controls. There are no industrial sources of copper currently located in the West Valley communities.
Partnering with manufacturers to lower/eliminate copper content in products such as brake pads
Educating contractors, businesses, and the public on best management practices
Sediment control aimed at reducing PCBs and mercury also contribute to copper reductions. This includes municipal street sweeping, inlet maintenance, and construction/landscaping practices to reduce sediment and erosion.
